Interferential Therapy (IFT)
Interferential Therapy to help reduce pain and support tissue healing
A gentle, non-invasive electrotherapy used to calm pain and improve circulation
Interferential therapy (IFT) is a form of electrotherapy commonly used in rehabilitation to help reduce pain and support the healing of injured tissues. It uses two medium-frequency electrical currents that intersect within the body, creating a therapeutic interference pattern.
Because of the way these currents interact, they can penetrate deeper into muscles and soft tissues with less surface discomfort than many traditional low-frequency treatments. This allows us to stimulate nerves and muscles in a comfortable and effective way.
Interferential therapy works by improving local blood circulation, helping to reduce inflammation, and encouraging the release of endorphins—the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals. Patients often notice a gentle tingling or pulsing sensation during care, followed by decreased pain and a feeling of relaxation in the treated area.
By calming irritated nerves, reducing swelling, and supporting tissue repair, IFT can help improve range of motion and speed the recovery of injured muscles, ligaments, and joints. It is frequently used for both acute injuries and long-standing, chronic pain conditions.
Interferential therapy is especially valuable as part of a comprehensive restoration and maintenance plan. When combined with chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, postural work, and other supportive therapies, it offers a non-invasive way to help people recover more quickly, reduce discomfort, and return to normal daily activities with better function.
In our office, your treatment plan is tailored to your specific condition and goals, and IFT is used when appropriate to enhance healing, improve comfort, and support long-term musculoskeletal health.
